Elon Musk reacts to OpenAI case defeat, says will appeal the matter

Date:

In a landmark development, a US Jury on Monday ruled against Elon Musk in his lawsuit against OpenAI. The Jury found that the Sam Altman-led artificial intelligence company was not liable to Musk for having allegedly strayed from its original mission to benefit humanity.Elon Musk has now reacted to the matter. In a post on his own platform, X, Musk tried to undercut the defeat that he received.

In his post, Musk said, “Regarding the OpenAI case, the judge & jury never actually ruled on the merits of the case, just on a calendar technicality.”

Underscoring the purported merit of the case, Musk further added, ‘There is no question to anyone following the case in detail that Altman & Brockman did in fact enrich themselves by stealing a charity.’ The only question is WHEN they did it!”Hinting at his further plan of action in the matter, he said that he will file an appeal in the case with the Ninth Circuit court.

According to Musk, the ruling and the precedent it creates are ‘incredibly destructive to charitable giving in America.’Musk concluded the post by saying, “OpenAI was founded to benefit all of humanity.”

The jury in the federal court in Oakland, California, arrived at its decision unanimously. They found that Musk filed his case too late. Less than two hours were spent by the jury deliberating.

Many people saw the three-week trial as a turning point for OpenAI and artificial intelligence’s future, both in terms of who should benefit from it and how it should be used.
