Stressing on importance of strategic partnerships in the energy sector in light of the ongoing West Asia crisis, he said that a Government-to-Government agreement for the supply of oil and gas has been finalized to reinforce energy security for Mauritius.
Terming the agreement between the University Grants Commission and the Higher Education Commission of Mauritius as a significant step in strengthening academic cooperation, he said that Mauritius is the first country for which India has developed a dedicated iGOT Karmayogi portal. The jointly launched portal for Mauritian civil servants was described by the Minister as an extension of cooperation into the digital domain and complementary to existing capacity-building efforts. Mauritius is already a beneficiary of India’s flagship ITEC programme, through which many civil servants, diplomats, and police personnel have undergone training at India’s premier institutions.During his speech, the Minister pointed to a presentation on the Royalty payment of $45,000 representing revenues earned from the sale of Mauritian nautical charts produced through the joint hydrography service between both the countries, which he described as a tangible reflection of trust and mutual benefit in bilateral maritime cooperation, with India slated to soon position a Defence Attache in Mauritius.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs had earlier said that the Minister’s visit underscores India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, and commitment to the Global South. The Minister is also slated to deliver the keynote address at the 9th Indian Ocean Conference and hold discussions with counterparts from other participating nations on the sidelines.
