Date:

IndiGo has announced the resumption of its scheduled operations to Kathmandu, along with special relief flights to assist stranded passengers in the violence-hit Nepal. In an official travel advisory, IndiGo said from September 11, it will operate four daily scheduled flights to and from Kathmandu. The airline said it plans to operate two special relief flights on the same day after getting regulatory clearances. The special relief flights will be offered at special fares to ensure passengers can return home with ease.

“In these extraordinary times in Kathmandu, our priority is to reunite you with your loved ones. Starting September 11, IndiGo shall resume 04 daily scheduled flights to and from Kathmandu. In addition, subject to regulatory approvals, two special relief flights will operate the same day, dedicated to bringing our customers home safely,” the airline said in a statement.

The student-led “Gen Z” protests in Nepal that began against a government ban on social media expanded into a larger campaign reflecting growing public criticism of the KP Sharma Oli dispensation and the country’s political elite over alleged corruption and apathy towards the common people.

Prime Minister Oli resigned in the face of violent protests for a second day, even as the ban on social media was lifted late on Monday night. The demonstrators stormed many government buildings and set the parliament and homes of several high-profile leaders ablaze, a day after 19 people died in violence.
