What began as Los Angeles residents and Mayor Karen Bass taking a stand against Trump administration’s tactics to instill fear amongst immigrant communities through raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on June 6 has now erupted into demonstrations across the US.
Many Americans felt enraged at the Trump administration for deploying 700 Marines and 4,000 National Guard members to quell the protests they view as a democratic exercise. “…meanwhile there are fewer troops in Iraq and Syria,” Bass confirmed the deployment on social media platform X.Now planned protests will take place across 100 cities nationwide, including Denver, Boulder, Santa Barbara, and Syracuse on Saturday, June 14 as part of ‘No Kings Movement,’ a nationwide grassroots movement to resist ‘authoritarian overreach and billionaire influence in the US government’.

The “No Kings” theme was orchestrated by the 50501 Movement, a national movement made up of everyday Americans who stand for democracy and against what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.
Meanwhile, Mayor Bass continues to call for ending the raid. She brought together more than 20 mayors and local leaders from across Southern California on June 12 to confront the impact of violent crackdown on immigrants in various cities and express their solidarity with immigrant communities. “Right now, the Trump administration is using Los Angeles as a test case,” she wrote.
