Two SUV Debuts: Nissan introduced two NEV SUV concepts—the Urban SUV PHEV and the Terrano PHEV—showing its push to expand electrified offerings in China. Both models signal a faster development cycle, with production versions planned within a year, highlighting the company’s intent to scale its NEV lineup quickly.

Urban Buyers Targeted: The Urban SUV PHEV Concept is aimed at younger buyers in China and focuses on city use. It features split headlamps, an illuminated logo, blacked-out roof elements, and a connected rear light bar.

Terrano Returns Differently: The Terrano PHEV Concept brings back a known nameplate but is unrelated to the Terrano sold in India from 2013 to 2020. The new version adopts a boxy, off-road-focused design, marking a clear shift in positioning compared to the earlier model based on the Renault Duster.

Built For Off-Road Look: The Terrano concept includes features such as segmented LED headlamps, a large roof rack with lights, a side ladder, squared body cladding, and off-road tyres. The rear has a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and compact LED tail-lamps, indicating a design focused on utility and rugged use.

Powertrain Likely Shared: While Nissan has not confirmed specifications, the Terrano PHEV is expected to use a setup similar to the Frontier Pro PHEV, developed with Dongfeng. This likely includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing about 424 bhp and 800 Nm of torque.

Launch Timeline Set: Nissan confirmed that production versions of both concepts will debut within a year in China. The company also plans to introduce three more NEV models in the same period, as part of a broader plan to expand its electrified vehicle lineup and update its brand positioning.

China Drives Strategy: Under its “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life” plan, Nissan treats China as one of three core markets along with Japan and the United States. China acts both as a domestic sales market and a development hub. Models like the N7, Frontier Pro PHEV, N6, and NX8 support this approach.

Exports In Focus: Nissan plans to export China-developed models to regions including Latin America, ASEAN, and the Middle East. The Terrano PHEV will also reach selected global markets, but is unlikely for India. The company aims for one million annual sales in China by fiscal year 2030, with exports playing a key role.
