The latest bout of uncertainty comes as US President Donald Trump scurried to find alternate ways to impose tariff after the Supreme Court deemed his sweeping tariffs illegal and ruled that the President has no authority to do so.
The US has since started charging 10% tariffs on global imports, according to a notice issued by the US Customs and Border Protection. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer echoed Trump’s social media posts stating the rate would go up to 15% for some countries, without specifying any country.
A formal executive order to that end has not been issued yet. However, President Trump has warned countries of “much higher tariff” if they “play games”.
