According to AP, citing a hospital spokesperson, at least four people, including a child, were wounded in the shooting. The injured were taken to Harborview Medical Center, where officials said updates would be shared as more information becomes available.
Authorities have not confirmed any deaths.
The shooting happened while hundreds of people were attending the Bite of Seattle food festival, which features local food vendors and live music.
Witnesses told local media they heard several gunshots before panic spread through the crowd. Many people ran from the area, while some said attendees were knocked over in the rush to escape.
One witness, Estan Wakonabo, 25, told The Seattle Times he returned to the scene later and saw several people with gunshot wounds on the ground, including a body covered with a yellow sheet. Police have not confirmed any fatalities.
Videos shared on social media showed people fleeing the area, emergency responders arriving at the scene and a heavy police presence around the Seattle Centre. Some social media posts claimed a suspect had been detained, but police have not confirmed any arrests.
Following the shooting, the Seattle Monorail suspended services for the remainder of Sunday and said operations would resume on Monday morning. The investigation is ongoing.
