Trump added that Putin likely believes the United States is helping Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since its invasion in early 2022. “I guess, and he probably thinks we’re helping Ukraine, right?” Trump said, adding, “Yeah, we’re helping them also.”
He also said that Putin says that and that China would say the same thing.

Though in a question on same reports, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had said that the United States is “tracking everything” and factoring it into battle plans when asked about reports that Russia may be aiding Iran. Speaking in an interview with 60 Minutes, Hegseth said the American public could be assured that President Donald Trump was aware of the situation.
On March 10, Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had discussed the war in Iran and prospects for peace in Ukraine.
United States and Israel are engaged in active military operations against Iran that began on February 28, 2026. This conflict has seen coordinated strikes by US and Israeli forces on Iran, and retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran on Israeli territory and US forces and bases in the Gulf.
