US designates BLA, Majeed Brigade as Foreign Terrorist Organisations

Date:

The United States Department of State designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its alias group Majeed Brigade as Foreign Terrorist Organisation on August 11.The US State Department also added Majeed Brigade to BLA’s previous Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) designation, the department said in a statement. BLA was designated as an SDGT in 2019 following a number of attacks claimed by the group.

“Since 2019, BLA has claimed responsibility for additional attacks, including by the Majeed Brigade,” the DoS statement read.

In 2024, BLA claimed it had committed suicide attacks near the airport in Karachi and the Gwadar Port Authority Complex. In 2025, BLA claimed responsibility for the March hijacking of the Jaffar Express train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, killing 31 civilians and security personnel and holding hostage over 300 train passengers.

“Today’s action taken by the Department of State demonstrates the Trump Administration’s commitment to countering terrorism,” the statement added.

Baloch nation endured Pakistan’s terrorism, says activist

Mir Yar Baloch, a Baloch activist called the decision as “vilification” of Balochistan and its “rightful owners”, while highlighting Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism for decades and carrying out attacks on the US Army personnel. However, no statement by the BLA’s official representative has been made as of yet.

“The Baloch are not terrorists. They are a nation that has endured 78 long years of state terrorism, economic plunder, radioactive poisoning from Pakistan’s nuclear tests, foreign invasion, and brutal occupation by the extremist and artificial state of Pakistan,” Mir Yar wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He further stated that Balochistan and its people are victims of Pakistan-sponsored IS-Khurasan, which is a deadly proxy nurtured by the ISIS, that has now issued a “fatwa calling for violence against peaceful Baloch political parties and their activists.” He alleged that Pakistan is involved in crushing voices against the government through these groups.

Yar added that Balochistan has never attacked the US or its Armed Forces while outlining how Pakistan has been harbouring terrorism by giving shelter to 9/11 attacker Osama bin Laden in the country, who was later killed in an encounter by the US government in a secret operation.

“Throughout history, the Baloch have shown unwavering goodwill towards the United States. Even during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Baloch people never raised arms against America or the Soviets. After 9/11, NATO supply lines passed through Balochistan, yet not a single attack was carried out by Baloch freedom fighters or civilians on American personnel or convoys,” he said.

“In contrast, the Pakistani military and the ISI orchestrated anti-American rallies, chanting “Death to America” while sheltering terrorists. For a decade, Osama bin Laden lived under the protection of Pakistan’s military in Abbottabad. Pakistan’s own leaders have admitted waging a fake jihad against the interests of the United States and the West, deceiving allies while breeding extremism,” he added.

Time to stand with truth, Pakistan a liability to global peace

The Baloch activist further stated that Pakistan has proven itself to be a liability to global peace, economic stability, and international trust, a rogue state in military uniform. He called for recognition of Balochistan state and urged to stand with its people.

“And yet, these same radicals are courted as “strategic partners,” while the rightful owners of the resource-rich land of Balochistan are vilified as terrorists,” he said.

“Recognising Balochistan’s independence would give the United States a genuine ally, moderate, stable, and aligned with democratic values, far preferable to a corrupt military elite rejected even by its own people. It is time to stand with truth, justice, and the people of Balochistan,” he added.
