L&T wins order worth up to ₹2,500 crore from MMRDA for the Mumbai metro

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Ltd. on Wednesday, December 24, said its transportation infrastructure business vertical has won a significant order from the Mumbai Metro railway project.

L&T classifies orders in the 1,000 crore to 2,500 crore range as “significant”.

The Mumbai metro railway project, Package CA-298, awarded by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), is for the electrification of 24.72 km-long “Line 4” that runs between Bhakti Park in Wadala to Cadbury junction, having 22 elevated stations.

The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of power supply and traction system for the 24.72 km route and provision of SCADA system for the complete Metro Line 4 and 4A for 32 stations, depots and receiving substation.

All work will be carried out by L&T’s in-house design and execution team, it said. The scope of work also includes electrical and mechanical words, lifts and escalators for 22 elevated stations and two depots, along with five years of comprehensive maintenance, it added.

This is the third successive order L&T has won in the Line 4 and 4A corridor of the Mumbai Metro. Earlier, it had won the order for Package Ca-234, involving rolling stock, communications-based train control (CBTC) signaling, telecommunications, platform screen doors and depot machinery and plant for the entire corridor, and another order for Package Ca-168, involving 19.5 km ballast-less track-works across 15 stations.

On another note, a day prior, L&T’s hydrocarbon business won an order in the 5,000 crore to 10,000 crore range from the state-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL)

Last week, L&T’s buildings and factories business won orders in the 2,500 crore to 5,000 crore range from the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.

L&T shares were trading 0.2% up at 4,066 apiece around 11.10 am. The stock has gained 10.9% this year, so far.
